Toast!

A sad omission is the boast

that bread aspires to perfect toast

when poesy cannot fitly utter

how justified a knob of butter

slathered on a crisp, hot slice

salutes the tastebuds beyond price,

for fresh-baked dough's an angel host,

I think this is a toast to toast!

Well done. As you know from reading The Marriage Gift, I believe toast is one of the defining achievements of human civilization. I look forward to reading the sequel on marmalade.

Ah yes. I seem to remember that the marriage split over whose was the responsibility for toaster crumbs on the kitchen counter but that there was a reconciliation in a public fountain with her wearing red lacy lingerie. Standard.

A sequel on marmalade? I better go there before you do, I think! :-)

By now, I sure you will have enjoyed that, Katia. Let it not be said that I encouraged you to pile on the calories!

Not at all – I don't much like jam on my toast. Just butter and sometimes Marmite.
